A Variety of Rhythms
I love Latin rhythms and in a typical class we dance salsa, cumbia, reggaeton, merengue and bachata. I also throw in tango, samba, Bhangra, Hip Hop, Latin Pop and other rhythms to keep things interesting and spicy!
When people do interval training, they boost body fuel, strength, and stamina. On a treadmill, for example, if you alternate short bouts of high-intensity exercise with a few minutes or seconds of rest, you get a different type of workout than if you run at an even pace the entire time. Zumba calls the alternation between fast and slow rhythms "intermittent" training, giving you a better workout and results!
I show modified moves at the beginning of each song to make the moves easier to learn and also for people with injuries and at different fitness levels. After starting very basic (for some songs, I start only with feet), we then add hands, jumps, and other higher intensity moves as the song progresses.
After founding Creativity on Fire, my own retail ceramics business in 2010, I was so busy that I struggled to find time to exercise. I finally tried a Zumba class because I heard it was fun...after my first class, I knew that Zumba was my ticket to getting back into shape! Over the years, I have tried many "fad" exercise and nutrition programs including Body for Life, Isagenix, and P90X, all of which are amazing programs. However, they are sometimes hard to keep up with since they require considerable discipline and preparation.
Why choose Zumba? I believe Zumba is a winning exercise choice because it is FUN (people really look forward to class!), gives amazing results, and is easy to pick up whether you have one day a week or seven. Since I have a background in dance, finding Zumba is like coming home again. During my "dancing days" people would say to me, "I wish I had the talent to dance! it looks so fun." With Zumba, even the people who think they have two left feet will surprise themselves and have a blast - they really can move to the music! It is not hard to follow...and it IS fun!
I decided to become a Zumba instructor to inspire other people to join me in this journey of getting in shape and staying that way. I took Zumba Kids to local elementary schools in an effort to get kids active and learning a healthy lifestyle when they are young!
